Agencies - Champagne

Champagne Roger Brun is one of the most respected houses in the Grand Cru village of Ay. The house produces a range of champagnes from it’s vineyards in Ay, Avenay and Mareuil-sur-Ay. Their wines are predominantly based on their own Pinot Noir grapes, but their status as negociants enables them to buy in some Chardonnay from the Cotes de Blancs. In addition they sell some grapes to producers such as Krug and Charles Heidseck.

I have known the family for more than 20 years, and during that time I have always been impressed by the quality and character of their wines. Being Pinot dominant, they are generally full-bodied and rich, and display good autolytic character. Philippe Brun makes his rosés by the classic, maceration method, which gives them delightful red fruit character. They have proved slightly controversial in recent years as the colour has become fuller, which has attracted the attention of INAO. However Philippe continues to go his own way, making wines of real character.
