Italy

Every time I visit Italy I am struck by the amazing diversity the country offers. I am also made aware that Italian wines are fantastic food wines. They have structure and balance that makes them the perfect match with a huge variety of foods. The best of them also represent tremendous value.

Veneto

Vini Fabiano
The Fabiano family has been producing wines in the Veneto region, in north east Italy, for almost 100 years. The winery is now run by brothers Alessandro and Michele, who are producing classic Veneto wines with a hint of modernity. The success of their Prosecco has prompted the brothers to release a rosé version under the Castello label.

Carlo Damiani Pinot Grigio, 2010 £39.30 per case of 6
Light, fruit driven Pinot Grigio, with good balancing acidity. Ideal
aperitif and a good match with light white meat dishes.

Carlo Damiani Pinot Grigio Rosé, 2010 £39.30 per case of 6
A delicate rosé, with good juicy fruit flavours and a dry finish.

Castello Prosecco Brut NV £60.90 per case of 6
Italy's finest sparkling wine, Prosecco is currently very fashionable,
and this light elegant fizz shows why. Dry but well balanced, it drinks
perfectly on its own, but is also great in the venetian speciality "spritz",
a blend of Prosecco and Campari.

Castello Spumante Rosato Brut NV £60.90 per case of 6
A light, dry rosé, with hints of soft, red fruit. A great alternative to
champagne.

Il Torcolo Bardolino, 2009 £55.32 per case of 6
A light red, with hints of bitter cherry. Perfect with pasta or pizza.

La Piazzola Valpolicella, 2009 £55.32 per case of 6
Fuller bodied than the Bardolino. This is packed with juicy, red fruit
flavours. Fantastic with fresh parmesan.

Tuscany
Tenuta Villa Trasqua
Villa Trasqua takes its name from the huge natural amphitheatre, called Trasqua, on which their 50 hectares of vines are planted. This area has a special mesoclimate. South facing, it benefits from prolonged sunlight during the day, and also feels the benefit of cooling night breezes. This unique location, coupled with tremendous investment in the winery, has resulted in wines that have received rave reviews over the past couple of years.

Chianti Classico, 2008 £73.74 per case of 6
Beautiful, almost floral, aromas are followed by delightful dark fruit
flavours on the palate. Tremendous silky mouthfeel, with firm, ripe
tannins giving stucture to the riipe fruit.

Chianti Classico Riserva, 2007 £93.72 per case of 6
Again fantastic aromas of blackberry and mulberry. Luscious
mouthfeel, with great intensity of flavour and a long finish. Drinking
well now, but will keep for 5 or more years.
